This Kilkenny Model IB-04-1080 ice builder is being shipped to France to be used in a dairy. It will be store cooling in the form of thousands of kilogrammes of ice in a bath of water just above 0°C.
Ice builders are not a new concept but they are seeing a huge resurgence recently. An ice bank acts like a ‘battery’ for cooling, making them ideal to pair with renewable or intermittent sources of electricity. The machine will build ice when electricity is cheap / or available and store it until cooling is needed.
