ATEX cooling system by Kilkenny Cooling Systems
ATEX is equipment rated for ATmospheric EXplosive environments, or rather, it is the name given to equipment EU rated for use in explosive or potentially explosive environments such as mines, pharmaceutical plants, refineries, oil rigs and power stations.
Following on from a successful cooling system prototype which was designed and built for an international client late last year, Kilkenny Cooling Systems was once again called upon to use our years of expertise in refrigeration to design and build a bespoke chilling system – this time an ATEX cooling system.
Turbine Lubrication Oil ATEX Cooling System
We had previously built a turbine lubrication oil cooling system for this client. The proposed cooler was to be used to cool turbine lubrication oil as part of the oil treatment process. The cooler was to operate continuously in an explosive environment (ATEX Zone 2) so it had to be ATEX rated.
The cooler was designed with a removable cassette – (inspired by a beer cooling system) – meaning the heat transfer section of the cooler could be easily replaced if necessary.
The refrigeration unit itself was an ATEX rated compressor by GEA and ATEX fan by London fan, and was purpose-built for use with this chiller. The chiller was constructed exactly to match the dimensional and power specific characteristics of the refrigeration unit for neatness of design.
Novel project
This was a new and interesting challenge for us here at Kilkenny Cooling Systems and we were delighted to extend our catalogue of unique cooler projects to include ATEX classified cooling equipment.
We specialise in designing and building unique and bespoke cooling equipment to meet customers exacting specifications, so if you have a project you think we can help you with, please do get in touch – we would be delighted to speak with you!
